Consider the following questions:

  1. Who were the principal actors involved in the Chad/Libya dispute?
  2. Why did Chad and Libya agree to refer their dispute over the Aouzou Strip to the International Court of Justice? Why did Libya comply with the Court's decision?
  3. What was the basis for the ICJ’s opinion? What other factors might have been relevant in deciding whom the Aouzou strip belongs to?
  4. What are the principal features of the state system? In what ways does the inter-state system differ from domestic societies?
