| Donald E. Wilkes, Jr. Professor of Law INTRODUCTION Donald
E. Wilkes, Jr. has been a law professor at the University of Georgia
School
of Law for 36 years. Prof. Wilkes received his degrees from the
University
of Florida (B. A. With Honors (History) 1965; J. D. With High Honors
1969),
and was a law clerk to U. S. District Judge Ben Krentzman in Tampa,
Florida from 1969 until 1971. Prof. Wilkes was a Fellow in Law and the
Humanities
at Harvard University from 1975 until 1976. Prof. Wilkes teaches
Criminal Procedure, English Legal History, and Postconviction Relief.
Prof. Wilkes has nearly 200 published works, including 5 books (which
have gone through
a total of 9 second or subsequent editions), 20 book supplements, 2
book
chapters, 13 law review publications, 1 bar journal article, 1 legal
encyclopedia entry, and 139 scholarly articles in magazines, newspapers,
and professional journals. One of Prof. Wilkes' books is a 3-volume treatise
over 4,800 pages long. Another is a 2-volume treatise nearly 1,600 pages
long. Prof. Wilkes
has made many scholarly presentations to civic, professional, and educational
organizations and groups, and has delivered numerous public speeches. Born in Daytona Beach, Florida on July 30, 1944, Prof. Wilkes was admitted to the Georgia bar in 1972. Prof. Wilkes has represented criminal defendants and applicants for postconviction relief at both the trial and appellate level in federal and state courts. See, e.g., United States v.
