Welcome and welcome back to all our law students!  We’re always excited this time of year to meet the incoming 1Ls and LL.M.s as well as to hear about the summer adventures of the 2Ls and 3Ls. We hope your summer has been as busy, productive and exciting as ours.

In addition to the Law School renovation, the Law Library has also undertaken a construction project. The Law Library Annex has been closed all summer while construction crews have been busily working on replacing the building’s heating and cooling system. The 2Ls and 3Ls can testify that the temperature in the Law Library Annex can be “extreme” at any given point in the year so we know everyone will be much more comfortable when the project is completed.

The first phase of the project has been taking place all summer. If you can imagine…the library staff moved from their Annex offices into the library balcony carrels. The book stacks were covered in plastic while the ceiling tiles were removed and the entire ductwork system was replaced. Needless to say, it was a mess.  AND I hope by the time you are reading this article that the first phase of the project has been completed. 

Over the winter break, the second phase of the project will be completed. While we are away, the old heating and cooling unit will be removed from the mechanical room and replaced with a sparkling new, modern and efficient unit. When we all return in January, the Annex should be toasty warm!

Finally, whether you are a new 1Lor LL.M. or a returning 2L/3L, I hope you will make the law library the heart of your intellectual life during the upcoming academic year.
