On January 28 the University of Georgia Libraries faculty and staff
broke ground for the the Special Collections Libraries Building. The
construction phase will take 18 months. The Hargrett Rare Book and
Manuscript Library, the Richard B. Russell Library for Political
Research and Studies, and the Walter J. Brown Media Archives and
Peabody Awards Collection will all be housed in the state of the art
facility which includes high-density storage, expanded exhibit space,
classrooms, and lecture halls.
The Law Library's collection of rare books will also be
moved to the new facility to take advantage of advanced climate control
and security systems. Visit the new building's website for more information, artists'
renderings, and a live camera displaying the progress of construction.
