The Art-Law Centre of the University of Geneva and the Art Law Foundation are co-organizing a conference on ‘Works of art qualified as “national treasures”: limits to private property and export controls’. This will be followed by the Third All Art and Cultural Heritage Law Conference. These events will take place at the University of Geneva, on Friday and Saturday 9-10 November 2018.
A secure global maritime domain in which freedom of navigation is guaranteed, marine resources and the environment are protected, and the rule of law is upheld is essential for international prosperity and peace. Ensuring maritime security involves combating threats posed by illicit activities, such as piracy against ships, drug trafficking, smuggling and trafficking in human beings, or illegal fishing, as well as by natural disasters, climate change, or conflict in and around coastal regions.

Intergovernmental organizations – understood as multilateral institutions created by sovereign states, with their own permanent structures and charged with the long-term pursuit of common goals – are tools for promoting the peaceful resolution of conflicts and facilitating cooperation. By establishing permanent dialogue between governments and trying to promote cooperative relations between peoples at a global level, intergovernmental organizations are a fundamental new element of global politics in the contemporary era.
