Professional Biographical Information:
Marc
A. Galvin is the University of Georgia School of Law's director of
student affairs and registrar, and now also servers as law facilities
coordinator. He joined the law school as associate director of
admissions in 1983.
Currently,
he and his staff maintain student records and oversee course
registration and the distribution of grades. They also provide
information to prospective employers and bar admission offices across
the country. They developed the course preference registration system,
an idea since shared with other law schools.
Additionally,
Galvin assists student organizations and oversees student activities
funds. In addition, he counsels individual students and serves as a
liaison for law students with other offices and services at UGA,
including the approval of short term loans. Galvin is an advisor
to the Student Bar Association (SBA) and to the Asian Law Student
Association. His office coordinates two Red Cross blood drives each
year. He has served on several law school and university
committees and currently is the law school building safety and security
representative to the UGA Office of Security and Emergency
Preparedness.
Galvin
teaches a UGA freshman seminar titled Georgia and the Civil War. He
also has taught the UGA undergraduate course History of Georgia.
Galvin has published several book reviews, was a contributor to the
Greenwood Dictionary of Education and has edited and proofread
publications.
Galvin's
professional affiliations have included the American Association of
Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers and the National Network
of Law School Officers, for which he has been a three-time board
member. He also is participates in the Student Services Section
of the Association of American Law Schools.
Galvin
is a scholarship application reader for the Jeannette Rankin
Foundation, serves as his neighborhood's representative to the March of
Dimes, and he and his wife were honorary co-chairs for the Oconee
County Relay for Life. Currently an avid fan of his sons'
athletic teams, he is a former youth basketball and baseball
coach. Galvin is an elder on session at his church. In
addition to historical society memberships including the Northeast
Georgia Civil War Roundtable, Galvin assists in the training of U.S.
Army Military History Detachment personnel.
