GSICL hosts "Freedom of Speech...Just Watch What You Say"

Date:
Tuesday, October 15, 2013 - 5:00pm to 6:30pm
Location:
Larry Walker Room--Rusk Hall

It turns out freedom of speech is not as free as you thought. Just take if from Arab rappers who are landing in jail over anti-government lyrics. Join GSICL and our panel of intriguing guests as we explore political stability in post- revolution Tunisia.  Our panel includes Professor Andrea Dennis discussing the criminal procedure and evidence issues involved with the arrest of some of these rappers,  Professor Fonder (from the UGA Department of History) who will provide a historical perspective as a back drop for the current political climate in Tunisia, and Professor Becker (from the Journalism Department) who will provide an analysis on how new media is being used to expose government atrocities but also, how government can (and has) stifled freedom of speech. The event will be moderated by Professor Miller. Cultural refreshments will be provided!
