Court Watch Training Session

Date:
Tuesday, March 27, 2018 - 12:00pm to 12:45pm
Location:
Classroom I
The American Constitution Society is excited to offer a volunteer opportunity for UGA Law students to participate in the Indigent Defense Committee of the State Bar’s Court Watch program.

The LAST CHANCE to attend a Court Watch info and training session will be on TUESDAY, MARCH 27, 2018, from 12:00 noon- 12:45, in Room I. This session will be conducted by Professor Russell Gabriel, where we will offer an overview of the program and materials, as well as provide you with a schedule of upcoming observation opportunities and sign-up sheets.

This program not only works to collect valuable data on how the rights to counsel for indigent people are being observed in courts with limited criminal jurisdiction in Georgia, but it also gives volunteers an opportunity to get comfortable and familiar with courtroom settings, and to engage with local courts and witness firsthand the impacts that they have on our communities.

As a part of the program, lawyers and law students are entrusted with observing court proceedings, taking notes, and meeting with court officials to gather a comprehensive narrative of how the right to counsel is implemented in courts with limited criminal jurisdiction- those handling primarily misdemeanor offenses and ordinance violations.

We welcome the participation of all UGA Law students in this exciting opportunity.

We hope to see you there!
