The Law School policy on rescheduling exams is outlined in the Student Handbook which appears on the Law School web page at: http://www.law.uga.edu/facstaffstu/students/handbook/pol.html#exam. The following rules and procedures govern exam rescheduling:
1. General Rule -- Because the exam schedule was available during registration, there is a strong presumption that students will take exams as scheduled. You should immediately consult the exam schedule (outside the Registrar's Office or on the Web) to determine the times for your exams. Compliance with exam rescheduling procedures is not required if your instructor has announced an alternative exam time available to all students regardless of their circumstances. As for exam rescheduling, only the following circumstances justify exam rescheduling:
2. Rescheduling Due to Schedule Conflicts -- Students may seek to reschedule an exam because of a conflict with other exams or a conflict with other obligations.
The following procedures shall be followed:
(a) Conflict with Other Exams -- A student with two exams scheduled on the same calendar day (not within 24 hours of each other, but on the same calendar day) may seek to reschedule one to another time. You must inform both instructors of the conflict and ask one professor for relief. If one instructor refuses permission, you may ask the other. If neither instructor authorizes rescheduling, consult me immediately.
If an instructor has granted permission to reschedule, obtain an exam change form in the Registrar's office or on the Web, fill it out and submit it to my office. I will authorize rescheduling approved by a faculty member. ALL COMPLETED FORMS MUST BE IN MY OFFICE BY TUESDAY, APRIL 15 AT 5 P.M. I WILL GRANT NO REQUESTS WHICH ARE NOT TIMELY FILED.
The fact that a student has exams on 3 or 4 consecutive days does not justify an exam change. Likewise, the fact that a student has an exam on one afternoon and another the following morning does not justify an exam change.
(b) Conflict with other obligations--You may seek relief if a scheduled exam conflicts with other very important obligations (family weddings, job responsibilities, etc.) The procedure to be followed is the same as in 2(a).
The instructor's permission must first be sought. If, and only if, the instructor grants permission, the form must be filled out and submitted to me by Tuesday, April 15 at 5 p.m. You must attach a complete explanation of the circumstances which you feel justify your petition. Each case will be considered on its merits.
Rescheduled exams normally will be taken in an exam makeup period. Note that this term makeup slots are allocated both in the during the exam period and also at the end of the exam period. Makeup exams can be taken on May 6 at 1:30 p.m. or on May 13 at 9:00 a.m. For logistical reasons, it is especially important that any makeup exam which will be taken on computer be taken in one of these time slots. In unusual circumstances, with permission of the instructor and me, makeups may be scheduled at other times.
All rescheduling petitions, regardless of the basis for the request, must include the makeup date and time you and the instructor have agreed upon. The decision as to when a makeup exam shall be taken shall be made by me.
3. Rescheduling for Emergencies -- When emergencies arise during the exam period, such as personal illness, severe family illness, death in the family, etc., please contact me immediately in order to make arrangements for rescheduling, if appropriate. Because of our anonymous grading system, it is important for you to contact me or my office and not the instructor.
4. Emergencies Arising During an Exam
--
If an emergency arises during an exam, notify the Dean's Office
immediately.
Arrangements will be made for rescheduling, if appropriate.
