Law Library News, April 1995

Carol A. Watson, Editor

ULTRA-QUIET ANNEX ZONE

Director Ann Puckett and Associate Dean Paul Kurtz report that they've received lots of positive feedback on the newly designated ultra-quiet zone on the first floor of the Law Library Annex. Prof. Puckett says that she's delighted the sound of roof repair is drowning out the loud talking of law students. Ms. Puckett was reportedly overheard saying, "I'm going to see if I can drag this thing out at least until law school finals are over." Dean Kurtz noted that students particularly seem to enj oy the smell of burnt asphalt. "I'm still trying to figure out how we can get that same smell over in the faculty library," said Dean Kurtz.

NEW FOOD AND DRINK SANCTIONS

In an effort to crack down on food and drink policy violators, the Law Library will be renovating the facilities. Prof. Puckett, Law Library Director said, "I don't think I made it clear in my policy statement, but water is considered a drink." Apparently many students have questioned why they can't have water in bottles while studying in the Law Library. Ms. Puckett was persuaded by the arguments of students that water in the water fountains is no different than water in sealed bottles. Conse quently, beginning April 1, all water fountains will be removed from the Law Library. We are contemplating similar actions for the restrooms. On a similar note, Ms. Puckett is considering legal action against Lexis/Nexis for the recent distribution of "bonafide, straight from Ohio" Lexis/Nexis bottled water in the Law Library.

COMPUTER LAB UPGRADE

You asked for it. You got it. In response to requests to increase the RAM on lab PCs, we're planning an upgrade. Beginning April 1 all color 486 PCs will be replaced with IBM Selectric typewriters. Computer Services Librarian Carol Watson said, "I've been trying to figure out how to prevent viruses in the Lab. This ought to really cut down on the virus outbreaks we've been having. Also, it will be a lot easier for students to type envelopes. Envelope printing is an issue that has been previo usly ignored by this law school. I'm delighted."

ATTENTION THIRD YEARS:

COPICARD MEMENTOS

By Sally C. AsKew

Although the Law Library has plans to improve the copy room facilities, third years need not fret. As in previous years, copicards will be available for third years to keep as sentimental mementos of your law school career. Preserve those law scho ol memories of endless photocopying. "But don't store them in your eelskin wallet next to your credit card!" warns Margaret McGrath.

APRIL FOOL'S

Ok, Ok . . . if you've read this far, you've probably figured out that it's April Fool's. We enjoyed the opportunity to poke fun at ourselves. The rest of the newsletter is serious. We promise.
