Professional Biographical Information:
Maureen A. Cahill has served the University of Georgia School of Law for over 20 years but in several different ways.
Cahill
has been the reference/collection management librarian since November
1997. In this job, she participates in regular reference rotation,
assists faculty and students with research and technology, plans the
shelving organization of the law library collection and supervises the
shelving staff. In addition, Cahill currently is helping coordinate and
implement the new circulation and security systems. She also conducts a
thorough review of current U.S. document holdings and chooses
appropriate documents for withdrawal and for addition to the classified
collection.
Public relations is also a part of Cahill's day.
She shares the responsibility for the law library's public relations
with other members of the library staff. She acts as the library's
liaison for the Journal of Intellectual Property Law, helps maintain
the school's Web pages, conducts library tours and serves on the
committee designed to develop a user's guide to the law library.
Before
assuming her current position, she worked in the law library as a
catalog assistant for 10 months. Prior to this position, Cahill served
as a staff attorney for the University of Georgia School of Law's Prisoner Legal Counseling Project for 16 years.
In 1973, Cahill received a Bachelor of Arts in English
from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro. She earned a Juris
Doctor from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1979. She also
earned a Master in Library and Information Science from the University
of South Carolina College of Library and Information Science in 2000.
Cahill is a member of the American Association of Law Libraries (national and southeastern chapters).
