Professional Biographical Information:
Elizabeth
Geesey Holmes, cataloging services librarian for the University of
Georgia School of Law Alexander Campbell King Law Library, joined the
UGA law staff in January of 2001. At the library, she effectively leads
and manages the work of the catalog department.
Holmes
does original cataloging work for monographs and serials plus maintains
and improves the quality of GAVEL, the library’s online catalog. She
plans, coordinates and supervises the work of the entire cataloging
system. In addition, she hires and trains the department staff. She
also chairs the acquisitions/cataloging team and the library systems
team.
Prior to joining UGA, Holmes served as the head of
copy cataloging and database management for the Harvard University Law
School Library. Holmes earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from
Lafayette College, a Master of Arts from the College of William and
Mary and a Master of Science in Library and Information Studies from
the University of Rhode Island. Before coming to UGA, she worked for
the Roger Williams School of Law Library, Cassidy Cataloging Services
and the Rhode Island State Library.
She
is a member of the American Association of Law Libraries (national and
southeastern chapters). She was a featured speaker at the AALL 2001 and
2002 Annual Meetings and has served on its public relations committee.
In April 2003, Holmes spoke on UGA law library's team management system
at the Southeastern AALL meeting in Lexington, Kentucky, and she became
the co-editor of the classification column in Technical Services Law
Librarian. For the past three years she has been a speaker for the
Georgia CLE program on Internet Legal Research.
