Donald Wilkes' book cited by the U.S. Supreme Court

Professor Donald E. Wilkes Jr.'s 4-volume State Postconviction Remedies and Relief Handbook was cited in a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision in the case of Wall v. Kholi, 131 U.S. 1278 (2011). The court referenced Wilkes' book when discussing the issue of characterizing a motion to reduce the sentence as a "collateral" or "postconviction" remedy.

Congratulations to the following Georgia Law faculty who earned promotions this year: Peter A. Appel, Lori A. Ringhand and Peter B. "Bo" Rutledge were named full professors; Harlan G. Cohen, Fazal Khan and Sonja R. West are now associate professors; and Sharon Bradley and Maureen Cahill have been promoted to Librarian IV.

Former Deputy AG Larry Thompson to join UGA School of Law faculty

Larry D. Thompson, former deputy attorney general for the United States Department of Justice, will be joining Georgia Law this fall as the John A. Sibley Professor in Corporate and Business Law. Thompson, who recently announced his retirement from PepsiCo, will be teaching courses in the areas of corporate law and white collar crime.
