ROBERT KNOX SCHOLARSHIP TO BE AWARDED THIS FALL
ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Georgia School of Law is pleased to announce the endowment of the Robert E. Knox Memorial Scholarship which will be awarded for the first time this fall. This scholarship was established in memory of the late Robert E. Knox who was a graduate of the law school and died in 1994. The scholarship was established by his wife, Ruth H. Knox, and two of his children, Robert E. Knox Jr. (J.D.’69) and Ruth A. Knox (J.D.’78).
"Robert was an outstanding individual of the highest caliber,” Assistant Director of Development Phyllis Cooke said. “He was a very talented attorney and was completely dedicated to his job and family. This scholarship is a wonderful way to honor both his character and accomplishments.”
The Robert E. Knox Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to University of Georgia School of Law students who exhibit academic merit. The recipient of the scholarship will be selected by the Dean or the Dean’s representative.
Knox, a native and lifelong citizen of Thomson, Ga., earned his undergraduate
and Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia. He began his law practice
in 1938. Aside from serving in World War II for four years, he practiced
law in Thomson until his death in 1994. According to his family, Knox served
his clients with uncommon ability, treated his co-workers and adversaries
with dignity and respect and always abided by his word. He is survived
by his wife and four children.
