UGA SCHOOL OF LAW CAPTURES FOURTH STRAIGHT TITLE IN
REGIONAL MOOT COURT TOURNAMENT
Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia School of Law
recently won the right to participate in its fourth straight National Moot
Court Competition by taking the top trophy at the regional round of this
prestigious advocacy competition.
Held in Atlanta this past weekend, Nov. 7 and 8, third-year
law students Meredith A. Bunn, Alan J. Hamilton and Christopher J. Latimer
successfully outargued teams from the University of South Carolina and Emory in
the semifinal and final rounds respectively.
Additionally, the trio captured the Best Brief Award.
School of Law Director of Advocacy Kellie R. Casey said the
team received one of the highest compliments from a competing team’s advisor
and coach. The coach said, “Each year
the team from UGA is outstanding. This year the team was unbeatable. How do you
do it all?” To this Casey answered,
“Hard work and dedication from the team members and Moot Court Board
members. In addition, we receive
tremendous support from our faculty and alumni. Without this combined effort, we would not be as successful.”
This win affords Georgia Law its eighth trip in 10 years to
the national competition, which is held in New York City each January. The National Moot Court Competition is the
nation’s oldest and most prestigious moot court tournament. Teams from
more than 165 law schools enter the competition, sponsored by the Association
of the Bar of New York. The
Georgia Law team is sponsored by the Atlanta law firm Hawkins & Parnell,
LLP.
