EXPERT TO DISCUSS
LAND DEVELOPMENT AND PRESERVATION
ATHENS,
Ga. - On Wednesday, Dec. 3, Transferable Development Rights expert Rick Pruetz
will speak on preserving natural, historical and scenic land while
accommodating growth through the use of TDR ordinances. “Putting Growth in its Place with TDR” is
sponsored by UGA’s Land Use Clinic, Students and Educators for Ecological
Design and Sustainability (SEEDS) and the Athens Grow Green Coalition. The event will begin at 7 p.m. in the UGA
Institute of Ecology Auditorium, and admission is free.
A planner for 24 years, Pruetz runs a consulting practice specializing
in TDR workshops, studies and ordinances. He is the author of
“Saved by Development: Preserving Environmental Areas, Farmland and
Historic Landmarks with Transfer of Development Rights and Beyond
Takings and Givings: Saving Natural Areas, Farmland and Historic
Landmarks with Transfer of Development Rights and Density Transfer
Charges. The latter title is the most comprehensive guide
available for the development of TDR programs nationwide. Pruetz holds
a Master of Urban Planning from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaulkee.
