Director of Business & Finance
B.B.A., University of Georgia
Elaine K. Mitchell, who joined the University of Georgia School of Law in 1985, is the director of business and finance. She serves as the chief fiscal and administrative officer for the law school and is responsible for management of its total state and private budget as well as the many administrative functions of budget, accounting, payroll, procurement and human resources.
Mitchell first came to the School of Law as an accountant overseeing the state budget. In 1985, those duties were expanded to include private funds, and she was promoted to budget officer. Her demonstrated performance led to the assumption of more responsibility and, in 1992, she was named budget director. In 1996, upon assuming the additional duties of personnel director, Mitchell was promoted to her present position of business and finance director.
Mitchell earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a major in accounting from the University of Georgia. Before joining the law school, she served as district accountant for the Marshall Public School System in Marshall, Michigan, as accountant for United Way of Battle Creek, Michigan, and as senior accounting assistant for the UGA Genetics Department.
Mitchell currently serves on the UGA Business Affairs Advisory Forum and frequently represents the law school on numerous university administrative committees and task forces. She served on the board of directors and on the supervisory committee of the University of Georgia’s Credit Union from 1987-90 and was president in the final year of her term.
