Annual Meeting, Athens, GA
April 16-18, 2009
The Community Service Committee has selected the Pinewoods Library and Learning Center, a branch of the Athens Regional Public Library System, as the beneficiary of this years Annual Meeting Book Drive.
Pinewoods Library is a specialized branch that provides adult education
including English as a Second Language classes, family literacy
activities and afterschool tutoring. The branch, which is located in a
doublewide trailer in the Pinewoods North Mobile Home Park on U.S.
Highway 29 North, was first intended to serve the 2,000 residents of
the mobile home park where it is located. The library has since grown
to serve as the resource and information center for the nearly 18,000
Hispanic immigrants who live in the county. Pinewoods Library is often
the first stop for many new immigrants where they learn English and
computer skills, along with discovering library services.
The Pinewoods Library was recently selected as one of three finalists for Library Journal's 2009 Best Small Library in America!
