Georgia Law - Virtual Tour

The University of Georgia School of Law, located next to the main library on the second quadrangle of North Campus, is only a short walk from the Chapel, the Arch and the hubbub of downtown Athens life. The main facility, Harold Hirsch Hall, was completed in 1932 with funds raised in the midst of the Great Depression. Hirsch Hall, impressive to this day, is of brick Georgian colonial design with limestone trim.

The freestanding spiral staircase inside the main entrance of Hirsch Hall is a hallmark of the facility. Its white Georgia marble steps and ornate metal balustrade gracefully lead the visitor’s eyes upward to the dome and elegant chandelier which top the rotunda area. The stately rotunda is used for receptions following law school special events and student advocacy competitions.

The dome atop the rotunda is actually the base of a cupola which sets the law school apart from other buildings on North Campus.

During 2002, the School of Law underwent a $3.2 million renovation.  Included in this overhaul was a major school-wide technology upgrade creating a wireless Internet law school campus and equipping all classrooms with multimedia instructional technology.

The law school now operates four computer labs and learning centers in addition to 16 freestanding computers located just inside the main entrance of the law library.  Law students use these computers for quick reference and tasks.
