Welcome new 1Ls and welcome back to all our returning law students! The Law Library staff is always excited at this time of year to meet the incoming 1Ls as well as to hear about the summer adventures of the 2Ls and 3Ls. We hope your summer has been as busy, productive and exciting as ours.
We have been busy planning events and acquiring resources to make your upcoming year as successful as possible. We are excited about introducing you to new online legal research resources as well as continuing our regular Lunch-n-Learn series. Stay tuned for articles in Amicus Briefs to learn more about our new services and resources
We’ve also been improving the library facilities. You asked for it and you got it! Electrical power has been added to the tables on the library balcony in the main reading room. We’ve also created an extra quiet study space with individual carrels on the back wall of the first floor of the Annex. The carrels have adjustable office chairs that we hope will make your study space more ergonomic.
Don’t forget: Reference Librarians are available to assist you Monday-Thursday, 9am – 6 pm; Friday, 9 am – 5 pm; and Sunday, 2 pm – 6 pm. You can also reach the reference librarians:
AND…you can get nearly anything you want at the Circulation Desk. In addition to reserve books, we have chargers for every kind of electronic device, headphones, ear plugs, tape, paper clips, calculators, umbrellas, book stands, and even a couple of iPads with keyboards. If you need something, don’t hesitate to ask.
Whether you are seeking a quiet place to study, a collaborative environment or an opportunity to experiment with the latest legal research resources and technology, I hope you will make the law library the heart of your intellectual life during the upcoming academic year. Whether you’re visiting us digitally or in person, you are welcome here.

The Law Library welcomed Zanada Joyner in July. As the new Research and Instructional Services Librarian, Zanada brings a new perspective from her educational background and experience. In addition to her JD (Loyola University New Orleans, Moot Court) and MLIS (Rutgers), she practiced law in New Jersey and served as an intern at Rutgers School of Law Library (Newark) and a Reference Associate at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law Library.
Zanada has been busy this summer meeting many members of the law school community and planning new services. Alongside Anne Burnett and TJ Striepe, she’ll also coordinate the Law Library’s Research Assistant program.
In her free time, Zanada enjoys hanging out with her yorkipoo, McKenzie.

Did you know that all University of Georgia students and employees now have the ability to download and install Office 365 ProPlus software for free? You can do this through your online UGAMail account, which is powered by Office 365. Part of this amazing deal is being able to install it on up to 5 personal devices, including computers, tablets, and phones.
So which software programs are included in Office 365 ProPlus? For Windows operating systems, you can get Access, OneNote, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and (of course) Word. Mac operating systems do not get as many programs, but you still get Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word (and OneNote is available to you for free in the App Store). For iPads, Office for iPad is available; Office Mobile is available for iPhone, Android and Windows Mobile; and OneNote is available for all devices.
To install Office 365 ProPlus on your desktop computer:
(1) Log into your web-based UGAMail account.
(2) Click on the gear/"Settings" icon in the top-right menu.
(3) Click on "Software".
To install Office 365 ProPlus on your mobile device:
(1) Visit either the App Store or Google Play.
(2) Find the applications you want to install
(3) Enter your UGAMail account information.
Should you have any trouble or questions, the EITS Help Desk wiki has step-by-step instructions for installing Office 365 ProPlus for PCs, Macs, and mobile devices. For more information, including FAQ's about this Office 365 ProPlus package, visit the EITS webpage.

This month’s Law Dawg is Zeke, a border collie from Highway Z in Odessa, Missouri. Professor Alex Scherr and his wife, Candace Hawkes (pictured), belong to Zeke.
All members of the Law School Community (students, faculty and staff) are invited to submit a photo for possible selection as Law Dawg. The featured entry for each issue will be selected at random from all entries received. Please note that honorary Law Dawgs (i.e. those of the feline, equine, porcine, avian, etc. persuasion) are eligible as well. Send your Law Dawg photo(s) to firstname.lastname@example.org.
