SECOND EDITION OF THE GLOBAL JURIST AWARD Call for essays under the title:

2030: A new horizon for  International Economic Law?

The Law Schools of the Universidad Externado (Colombia) and the Universidad de  Zaragoza (Spain), under the scope of their Inter-University Cooperation Agreement, as well as  the Latin American Network of International Economic Law (RED LAT-DEI) have the honour to  present the Second Edition of the Global Jurist Award. This award is a call for legal essays  entitled: "2030: A New Horizon for International Economic Law?”.

After the success of the first edition of this award,2 we would like to keep on providing a forum for reflection and debate on the future of International Economic Law (IEL). The year  2020 unfolded in a highly unforeseen and disruptive manner, leaving no legal, economic or  social sphere untouched by the global crisis generated by Covid-19. This current year 2021,  likewise, continues to reveal multiple tensions arising from the persistent global Covid  pandemic. Against this volatile backdrop, this Second Edition of the Global Jurist Award wishes to look to the future and it encourages further written contributions to the development  of IEL.3 Taking the year 2030 as the goal line, the Second Edition of the Global Jurist Award seeks to recognise the author(s) who make(s) accurate assessments about the present of the  IEL and who also offer(s) lucid proposals on how IEL’s changes during the current decade should  be implemented.

Essays submitted for the Second Edition of the Global Jurist Award must be fully  unpublished4 and comply with the rules of style outlined here.5 The author(s),6 of any  nationality, must hold a university degree in law, economics or other social science  disciplines, or be enrolled in a programme in one of the above disciplines. Each author(s) can only submit one essay for this award. Essays should follow the form of a standard scientific  paper, containing footnotes and bibliographical references according to the APA citation  system. The original language of the essay can be Spanish, Portuguese or English.

Essays for the Global Jurist Award should be submitted by email to  contexto@uexternado.edu.co, in an email entitled: "Call for Essays - Second Edition of the  Global Jurist Prize". The call for essays opens on 10th May 2021 and closes in the night of  15th November 2021. The essays received will be analysed by the committee of evaluators the Second Edition of the Global Jurist Award, composed of renowned jurists in the field of  International Economic Law.

On 15 December 2021, the promoters of this award will announce the name of  the winner(s) and the finalist(s) of the Second Edition of the Global Jurist Award.7 Thanks  to the financial sponsorship of Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uría (PPU) and Uría  Menéndez, the winner will receive a prize of 1,000 Euros and the finalist a prize of 500 Euros8 and they will also receive a diploma from the institutions promoting the prize.

In addition, a webinar will be held in February 2022, where the winner(s) and  finalist(s) will publicly present their works and discuss them with the members of the  committee of evaluators of the Second Edition of the Global Jurist Award.9

The winning essays will be published in a special issue of Revista Con-texto:  Revista de Derecho y Economía10 directed by Professors José Manuel Álvarez Zárate and Katia  Fach Gómez, which will be available on its website in Spring-Summer 202211 and will be  published later in hard copy by the Universidad Externado de Colombia.
