The winning student submission receives the Henry L. Diamond Constitutional Environmental Law Prize, $2000 and an offer of publication in ELI's flagship publication, the Environmental Law Reporter (ELR).

With the generous support of Beveridge & Diamond, P.C., ELI conducts an annual competition inviting law students from across the country to submit papers exploring current issues of constitutional environmental law. Our goal is to inform the ongoing debate about the constitutional legitimacy of environmental laws and to recognize students who have advanced the state of scholarship through original analysis of cutting-edge constitutional environmental law topics.

ELI's writing competition, which is in its twelfth year and still the only one of its kind, draws essays from students at law schools nationwide. Winners have hailed from Lewis & Clark Law School, Wayne State University Law School, Georgia State University College of Law, Suffolk University School of Law, Vermont Law School, Washington and Lee University School of Law, Rutgers University School of Law-Camden, the University of Southern California School of Law, Vanderbilt Law School, Yale Law School, and the University of Maryland School of Law. We have acknowledged runner-up essays from a range of additional law schools.
