Two University of Georgia School of Law teams were named both the champions and finalists in the first ever National Online Moot Court Competition.
A team comprised of second-year students Haley Kairab, Hannah Sbaity and Victoria Thornton captured the championship title, while a team of third-year students Alexa Dato, Justin Edge and Cameron Keen were named finalists. Additionally, Kairab was named the Best Oralist of the final round.
Forty teams from across the nation participated in the inaugural online tournament, which was hosted by the law schools from UGA, South Texas and Hastings colleges, and St. Mary's, Stetson, Michigan State and Chapman universities.
The final round was judged by U.S. Circuit Judge Bernice B. Donald of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, U.S. District Judge Leslie Abrams Gardner of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia and Justice Patricia O'Connell Alvaraez of the Texas Fourth District Court of Appeals.
"I am delighted that both of our teams performed so well at this first-time competition," School of Law Advocacy Director Kellie Casey said. "I could not be more pleased with our team and their efforts and preparation, or more grateful for the alumni support we received to assist in the creation of this contest."
