Dear Fellow Alumni,

It is my honor and pleasure as president of the Law School Association (LSA) to thank all of you who invested in the University of Georgia School of Law this past year. This Annual Report gives you an opportunity to learn more about our law school’s recent successes and the significant positive impact that private giving had this past year.

The LSA has existed since 1951 to promote Georgia Law. The LSA Council members are devoted to assisting Georgia Law in fulfilling its educational and professional mission and serving the professional needs of our students and alumni. The LSA Council is committed to meeting these goals by:

  • Supporting the Law School Fund.
  • Fostering lasting relationships among law students, alumni, and the legal community.
  • Planning and funding alumni and law student events.
During 2007-2008, the law school raised more than $690,000 in unrestricted gifts for the Law School Fund. This fund holds annual unrestricted resources that provide critical support for our students as they become highly skilled, dedicated and ethical lawyers. The fund helps meet the day-to-day operational needs of the school, while enabling Georgia Law to remain competitive in attracting the best students and faculty.

The LSA Council is charged with the responsibility of increasing the amount donated to the Law School Fund each year to help meet growing demands. Together, we can commit to meet, and also exceed, even in these challenging times, our current fund-raising goal of $700,000. Your support, and that of friends, law firms, foundations and corporations, is vital. I encourage each of you to support Georgia Law each and every year.

Sincerely,

Henry C. Tharpe, Jr. (J.D. 1974)
2008-2009 Law School Association President
