W. Matthew Dodge

W. Matthew Dodge joined the University of Georgia School of Law as an adjunct professor in 2022. He is a lifelong public defender. He has worked at the Federal Defender Program in Atlanta for more than two decades. At the FDP, he tried cases for many years, and now he represents clients exclusively on post-conviction matters, including federal and state habeas petitions and appeals to the Eleventh Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. Dodge began his career as a trial attorney at the Fulton County Public Defender’s Office in Atlanta and the Metropolitan Public Defender in Portland, Oregon. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and his law degree from Duke University.
