Edward D. and Carol J. Spurgeon Public Service Fellowship - 

The purpose of the Fund is to provide a fellowship(s) to a student(s) who has completed his or her first or second year in the School of Law and is working in a low paying or non-paying public service summer employment, excluding typical summer clerkships with federal, state, or local government agencies. The Fellowship will be given to a different student each year. 

Financial need may be a positive factor in the selection of the fellowship recipient, but it shall not be a primary factor. Race, religion, and gender shall not be factors whatsoever in the selection process. The recipient must be a person who has unquestioned integrity, exemplary character, and excellent judgement; has the dedication and ability to act professionally and be a community leader; believes a lawyers' primary responsibility is to serve the broader public interest, and has demonstrated a strong, long-term commitment to public service as evidenced by academic, vocational, and public service activities and focus.
