Biographical Information

Caitlin May joined the University of Georgia School of Law as a lecturer in the fall of 2025.

She spent the previous three years serving as a voting rights staff attorney at the American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia. From 2020 to 2022, May was a staff attorney for Judge Bonnie Chessher Oliver of Georgia’s Northeastern Circuit Superior Court. 

As a staff attorney for the ACLU, May litigated voting rights complaints in federal and state trial and appellate courts. She evaluated legislation and litigated complaints under the Voting Rights Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, the Equal Protection Clause and other state and federal legislation. Additionally, she drafted amicus briefs, trainings, articles and media releases about voting rights issues in Georgia. 

Outside of her professional capacity, May has been involved with community organizations such as LEAD Athens, the Georgia Municipal Association Young Gamechangers and the Junior League of Athens. 

She earned two bachelor’s degrees in Arabic and international affairs magna cum laude and her law degree cum laude from UGA, during which time she was the executive notes editor for the Georgia Journal of International & Comparative Law, a research assistant to Professor Dan T. Coenen and a Justice John Paul Stevens Public Interest Fellow.
