Students provide research and writing assistance on the full range of immigration issues that come before the court in the region served by the Atlanta office, including asylum, removal, and other cases. Students will work with different judges and have the opportunity to observe and discuss proceedings within chambers.

Students clerk for Judge Carla Wong McMillian of the Georgia Court of Appeals. Students work under the supervision of other law clerks, and have regular direct contact with the Judge. Students will prepare fact and issue statements, perform legal research, prepare memoranda for oral arguments, attend oral arguments; and offer support in drafting orders and opinions.

Trial Courts
Students provide research and writing support for Superior Courts judges. Students do not perform trial advocacy, but have exposure to trials through observation and discussion with the trial judges and the permanent clerks. Students will gain full exposure to the workings of a Georgia trial court, and will gain insight into the decision-making processes of trial courts in contested cases.
Criteria: Dedication to meeting deadlines. Efficiency in delivering research work. Demonstrated maturity and commitment to work. Clinic director screens; site supervisor interviews and selects.

The State Court handles a wide range of civil and criminal matters, in a fluid and active trial litigation setting. Students will have hands-on exposure to court administration.

Clarke County State Court Judges Simpson & Auslander
We have also had students working occasionally with judges in other circuits, including the following counties: Gwinnett, Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb, Henry and Forsyth. We remain open to proposals for other circuits, including both state and superior courts.
Established as a pilot program in 2005, the now permanent Business Court provides a specialized venue for complex commercial litigation in Fulton and Gwinnett Counties. Eligible cases include cases with damages in excess of one million dollars and those that involve contractual disputes, commercial litigation, alleged securities violations or questions of corporate, limited liability company or partnership law. The intern will research substantive matters, review case files, attend business court hearings, participate in ruling conferences and assist with case management duties.
Criteria: Minimum GPA of 3.0; Recommended courses: Securities, Commercial Torts, UCC, or other business and commercial courses.

Students provide research and writing for Judge Barron of the Athens / Clarke County Superior Court. Students will gain exposure to trials and hearings through observation and discussion with the trial judge. Students will gain full exposure to the workings of a Georgia magistrate's court, and will gain insight into the decision-making processes of trial courts in contested cases.
Criteria: Dedication to meeting deadlines. Efficiency in delivering research work. Demonstrated maturity and commitment to work. Clinic Director and site supervisor interview and select.

Students work for Probate Judges in Athens-Clarke or Cobb Counties. The Probate court handles a wide range of essential community issues, from wills and trusts, to guardianships and commitments, to boundary disputes, to a wide range of public records and licenses. Students will have hands-on exposure to court administration, and to the process of managing family and neighborhood disputes.
Criteria: Site supervisor and clinic director select.
Part-time only
Students work for the Juvenile Court in Clarke County. The Juvenile Court handles two distinct categories of cases, both relating to children: cases seeking protection of children from abuse and neglect; and cases in which children are charged with crimes. Student interns will provide research and case support directly to the Juvenile Court Judge, as well as policy and project assistance on efforts to reform and to improve the juvenile justice process.
Criteria: Site supervisor and clinic director select.

EEOC - Administrative Judges Atlanta
EEOC Administrative Judges hear and decide cases involving a variety of claims, with specific stress on employee claims against governmental agencies. Students work directly with Administrative Judges in preparing cases for hearing and decision, including file review, fact organization and development and legal research.
Criteria: Writing sample; Transcript may be requested if selected to interview.
