The Council of Superior Court Judges of Georgia is a state entity of the judicial branch charged with furthering the improvement of the superior courts and the administration of justice. The Council has a support staff of 11 employees, and membership consists of Georgia’s 230+ superior court judges and over 100 senior judges. The Council monitors legislative initiatives which could impact the substantive law or court procedures applied by judges of the superior courts or the administration of the courts.

Externs assist during the legislative session in spring with efforts to pass Council initiatives, analyze and track selected bills, and observe and report on committee meetings and floor debates. Externs will attend both internal meetings and General Assembly committee meetings with judges and work alongside them throughout the session. Full time externs may be assigned other responsibilities such as revising bench books, jury instructions, and special research for judges.
