Few areas of the law are changing as fast as data privacy, and InComm’s businesses are at the center of this rapid growth. The mission of InComm’s privacy team is to ensure the acceptable and appropriate use and management of consumer, employee, and business contact personally identifiable and sensitive information by implementing a Global Privacy Program devoted to data governance and regulatory adherence through documentation, communication, and enforced accountability.

Type of work:

InComm is pleased to offer an externship with its legal department on its privacy team. The legal work involved includes:

  1. reviewing privacy notices, data protection addendums/clauses, global privacy policy and standards,
  2. conducting privacy impact analyses and drafting risk assessment memos for new programs,
  3. monitoring, summarizing, and drafting comment letters related to privacy bills, legislation and regulations,
  4. working on reviews of federal and state laws of consumer protection, licensing and anti-money laundering requirements for state-licensed financial institutions and payment processing companies, and
  5. review of terms, conditions, disclosures and marketing materials in compliance with UDAAP and applicable laws.

The student will gain experience across a range of practices areas, including:

  • Privacy and Data Protection law and principles, domestic and international
  • Cybersecurity laws, including NYDFS Cybersecurity Law
  • BSA / Anti-money laundering / Sanctions regulations
  • CFPB federal regulations relating to credit, debit, prepaid, bill payment and other financial activities
  • FTC UDAP and CFPR UDAAP for marketing and advertising practices
  • State consumer protection, gift card and money transmitter laws

Note: Externship will be hybrid with 1-2 days in office required per week. When working remotely, regular face-to-face interaction with co-workers is routine. All employees are required to complete company training modules during the onboarding process.
