Type of work: Student will be involved in matters relating to contract review, contract management, healthcare transactions, licensure, accreditation, patient care, physician services, managed care, EMTALA, technology, antitrust, nonprofit, employment, HIPAA, financing, open records, and healthcare regulatory compliance. Student may assist in research on health system issues and prepare memoranda and position papers for the General Counsel and management. Student will be exposed to aspects of health system litigation, including evaluation and investigation of incidents, pre-suit matters, response to document and other discovery requests, subpoenas, government investigations, and audits. Student will have the opportunity to attend Ethics Consults, Peer Review, Credentials, Medical Executive, Grievance, Daily Safety Brief, and root cause analysis committees, and will be exposed to AUHS Board of Directors and their supporting committees.

work in-person one day and virtually the rest of the week)

Prior coursework or other skills: Interest in healthcare (including corporate, employment, professional liability, regulatory, and transactional practice) required. Successful students will be able to handle diverse activities in a fast-paced environment, have strong research and excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be capable of handling confidential and sensitive information.
