The Southern Poverty Law Center is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to racial justice in the South and beyond. SPLC works across five states—Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama—in collaboration with community partners and organizers.
At the Policy Department, externs are assigned a primary project to which they will contribute throughout the externship term as well as other projects they may assist with. Students will complete background and historical research, identify practical policy design for local jurisdictions, and make recommendations for policy design. The externship may be completed remotely with up to two travel opportunities related to projects each semester.
